The DataSHIELD community uses two major forms of communication to preserve information:
Both of these require logins (see below for how to get one).
The wiki is available read only to anyone (there are a few pages that are restricted access, e.g. until meeting minutes have been approved).
The wiki can also be edited by anyone who is participating in the DataSHIELD community - whether you are a Voting Member or not. In order to do so, you first need to get a login for the wiki. This can be done either by:

Membership of the DataSHIELD Community is self-defined. Anyone can be a Member. Members can actively participate in the DataSHIELD Community and are encouraged to participate in the life of the project and the community as much as possible. There is no expectation of commitment to the DataSHIELD Community, no specific skill requirements and no selection process. They may work individually or as part of an organisation. Members are free to contribute to any of the "Themes" by participating in one or more of the working groups. They make valuable contributions, such as those outlined below, and submit these through the project’s communication tools. Members’ contributions enable the project team to ensure that they are satisfying the needs of those Members.
Not withstanding the above, the DataSHIELD Community may choose to exclude someone from Membership if they are persistently acting against the principles of the community. This will be actioned by making a public statement on the website.
Anyone can be a non-voting member of the DataSHIELD community. In fact, by default, anyone who has anything to do with DataSHIELD and isn't a Voting Member is considered a non-member of the Community. Non-voting members are fully entitled to have access to the DataSHIELD forum and wiki.
From the Constitution:
Voting Membership is a role that DataSHIELD Community Members may have which confers certain
privileges and obligations. Voting Members are those who:
- Agree to further the aims of the DataSHIELD Community insofar as they participate in it;
- Do work that is valuable for the DataSHIELD Community;
- Agree to follow DataSHIELD Community principles;
- Are eligible to participate in decision-making and decision-making groups;
- Have trusted access to the wiki
Voting Members are listed on their own page, along with information about how to become a Voting Member.
